Ayurveda (Dinacharya and Rtucharya) Course

29 May – 1 June, 2018

Sri Dham Mayapur

Concerned with many health issues that occur in day to day life caused by unregulated and unhealthy diet and lifestyle issues, ISKCON DaivaVarnasramaMinistry – India organized a short course on Ayurveda(Dinacharyaand Rtucharya) from 29th May to 1st June, 2018 in Sri Dham Mayapur. This course was organized in collaboration with Mayapur Institute. Dinacharya is a daily schedule of meals and lifestyle, whereas Rtucharyais a seasonal schedule, the body’s needs may change according to the changing seasons.

IDVM – India invited a devotee-Ayurvedic doctor from Hyderabad, Dr. GummadavelliSrinivas MD (AY), to facilitate the course. Dr. Srinivas is a fifth-generation Ayurvedic doctor from his family lineage. He has 36 years’ experience as a professional Ayurvedic doctor. “… We have forgotten the ancient science and tradition of Ayurveda; in olden days everybody lived on the basis of Ayurveda, every woman cooked food using the Ayurvedic prescription. In earlier days kitchen was used for therapeutic purpose. So this Dinacharyaand Rtucharyacourse is meant to regulate our diet and lifestyle according to the structure of each body…” said Dr. Srinivas.

The course was attended by twelve devotees from different countries, some of them are Kamal G. from India, Revati Mataji from France, Devarsi Prabhu from South America, Radha Kunda Mataji (ACBVS) from U.S, and others.,

Dr. Srinivas made the course quite interactive with intermittent question and answer sessions. His explanation on the subject matter was based on the sastric evidence; he quoted verses from the sastra to prove the authenticity of his explanation. Besides the Dinacharyaand Rtucharyahe also touched on some other aspects in Ayurveda such as pancakarma, ayurvedic massaging, how to prepare medicines, and other basic philosophical knowledge on Ayurveda.

The participants were quite satisfied by the presentation and some of them suggested that IDVM – India should conduct a repeat course during the Gaurapurnima festival so that many more devotees can get the opportunity to attend and get benefited.

IDVM – India thanked the devotees involved who made this course happen, especially Dr. Srinivasa, who came all the way from Hyderabad to Sri Dham Mayapur. Hopefully, we can conduct a repeat course in future. Praying to Srila Prabhupada as well as Their Lordships for blessings and mercy to improve the quality of service to devotees and the society at large.

Below is some feedback from the course attendees:

Jayadeva Hari Das “…thank you very much for conducting this course, I am very much interested in Ayurveda…”

Kamal G:“…we want that IDVM – India conduct this seminar again with the same speaker, Dr. Srinivas; for accommodation and prasadam, it won’t be a problem for me to arrange; he can stay in my house…”

Revati Mataji“…for me it was interesting, …few things were new that I have learned from this course. I tried to apply something from the course regarding my diet as suggested by Dr. Srinivas, and I feel good; let’s see how it progresses…”
