Visiting Faculty on Yoga

HG Guru Gauranga das who holds a Masters Degree in Yoga Therapy recently joined SSKBK in Hebri as Visiting Faculty to give a two-day seminar on Yoga as part of the ongoing Sahyadri Varnasrama College.

He is seen here sitting in the temple room of the Sri Sri Krishna Balarama Temple at ISKCON SSKBK giving a discourse on the Srimad Bhagavatam. As a special guest, he also had the opportunity to carry the murti of Srila Prabhupada as part of the daily circumambulation of the temple, Parikrama, the before Guru Puja ceremony.

Astanga Yoga is one of the standard sciences taught in the Vedic literature to help both the body and the mind of an individual remain healthy and forms the basis of spiritual practices.

In the last few decades, Yoga practice has seen a tremendous surge in western countries where more and more people recognize the importance of keeping fit both physically and psychologically. When the body and mind are healthy and peaceful, this more easily helps one to meditate and elevate one’s consciousness to the spiritual or transcendental realm.

When Yoga is taught by a practising devotee, one who specializes in the topmost Yoga system of Bhakti Yoga or devotional service, the benefits are naturally much higher.

HG Guru Gauranga originally hails from the Southern State of Kerala close to the border of Karnataka and close to Mangalore. He has been practising and teaching Yoga for the past 10 years.

HG Guru Gauranga is presently based in Bangalore where he has his own Yoga Studio and daily teaches to some 100 students.
