Yasodapura Eco Village (YEV) Report February 2019

Goshala

By the mercy of Lord Krishna we have got two calves born by name Ekadasi and Subhadra. Last two months they were kept in the Ashram at the town because our YEV devotees returned to Indonesia. Now by the mercy of Lord Krishna we have brought back these cows to the village along with two devotees who had settled at the base camp, Chub Village, 2 Km from our YEV. Usually, we take some help from local villagers to look after these cows but because some criticism came “why do we trust our cows to non-devotees”, so now we decided to look after them by ourselves only, and because devotees sleep at the base camp so we also arranged the cows to sleep here. We have built small shade for the cows in the base camp and fixing the boundary, we were trying to collect grass for them so they could be always inside the goshala, but this arrangement is not practical, rather than to bring them to the field. Especially because now is dry season grass to collect around the village is very limited.

 Base Camp

We continued to grow our own vegetables here, we have got some rice from the family who grew at our land, so by the mercy of Lord Krishna we are self-sufficient in terms of rice and vegetables. We do some constructions to extend the cottage, Jagadish Prabhu doing the work for a few days and HG Kala Prabhu also giving some donation for this work which now still going on putting the floor.

 Prasadam distribution

We did prasadam distribution three times this month both at the village base and YEV, neighbouring people and children came to participate in kirtan and honouring prasadam. Some guest devotees from overseas came to join our Program.

 Farm Activities

This is the end of the harvest season, so last year we got some crops harvested like corn, beans, rice, cassava, and fruits. These crops were mostly grown by the local villagers on the agreement of 15% share. We were facing a lot of difficulties to work on our own because we don’t have enough manpower and fund. These locals can do it because they have their big family to help. In other words, to preach them to become devotees is also not easy because they are also busy with their poor life, struggling to maintain and uneducated. But we have to be committed and continue this project. Our hope is Krishna, we believe that one day this project will be successful by the Lord’s grace.

Upcoming program

We are planning to open a small pasraman education for the village boys, some traditional basic skills like farming, cow protection, music, carving, Sanskrit sloka recitation, will be introduced in this pasraman, so please shower us with all of your mercy for this. And the second upcoming program is the new season cultivation, we have an idea to hire some local boys to work at the farm which we can give prasadam and teach them to chant Hare Krishna Mahamantra. Our well-wisher and coordinator for this project Kisora Krishna Prabhu is continuing to promote this project in Indonesia for a long time.

 Hare Krishna
