VEDIC ECO VILLAGE in Canada

By: HH Bhakti Raghava Swami

SARANAGATI VILLAGE in BC Western Canada is home for some 35 Vaisnava families spread throughout the valley covering more than 2,000 acres.

The area is surrounded by mountains and natural forest with 3 natural lakes beautifying the valley.

The domain was acquired by ISKCON Vancouver devotees some 40 years ago for the purpose of establishing a sustainable Vaisnava community as desired by ISKCON Founder Acarya His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada.

In the southern-most part of the valley, a small group of devotees are heading up a project they have named *Vedic Eco Village *.

The combined project of 70 acres is undertaken by HG Bala Krishna Prabhu, Ramanath Prabhu and HH Bhakti Raghava Swami who became a resident of Saranagati Village some 3 years ago.

The General Manager for the project is Ramanath who yearly initially grows a lot of his crops in his nursery later to be transplanted in the soil during the month of June.

In addition to gardening, he also does construction work either repairing existing buildings or reconstructing new ones. An extension is being added this summer to Maharaja’s log cabin.

The month of June, July and August are especially ideal months to visit the Vedic Eco Village and to participate in the ongoing activities of natural organic farming and simple cob construction.
