The Sweetest Fruits from Ganga Sagara Baru, Kalimantan – Indonesia

Written by Bhaktin Dian Damayanti

“… And the production of food is dependent on the rain and the rain of course is dependent on chanting Hare Krishna. Therefore, let everyone chant Hare Krishn, eat nicely, and keep their bodies dit and healthy. This is ideal lifestyle.”—Srila Prabhhpada letter to Rupanuga, 18 December 1974

Since 2003, devotees in Kapuas, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, together develop a farm community. Dedicated to His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, few householders began to plant various kind of vegetables, fruits, flowers, and even the most important grain, paddies, as Indonesian main food. Led by Sundara Gopala Dasa Prabhu, the result is now very satisfying.

The fruits which are planted with devotional and sincere heart at Gangga Sagara Baru for pleasing Sri Krishna is now begin to be fruitful. There are Dragon Fruit, the Soursop, Coconut, Longan, and also many kinds of flowers and vegetables ready to harvest. It will after that be offered to Sri Panca Tattva, the deities worshipped in the temple, so that everyone can taste the prasadam with joy. The devotees use traditional vedic culture here to grow the plants. They use only cow dung without no chemical as the fertilizee. With this natural way, devotees can get very sweet and fresh fruits.

Fruits, flowers, and vegetables here are secunder crops. The main crop is paddy which is being pursued now. On the large amount of land and fertile soil at Gangga Sagara Baru, the paddy must be growing well. This potential crops of fruits and vegetables, also the ongoing paddies plantation, hopefully can support the living of devotees to continue Daiva Varnasrama-Dharma mission and serve Guru and Sri Panca Tattva as well.

Hare Krishna.
