“Books are the Basis” Srila Prabhupada.
In one of the meetings, His Holiness Bhakti Raghava Swami (my revered Spiritual Master) instructed me to create a mobile Book Stand that could be folded and carried to places for the purpose of widespread distribution of Srila Prabhupada’s Varnasrama Books. He named it “Varnasrama Media and Book Stand”. I immediately got down to work and made some rough design for the stand. From my book distribution experience at BACE Katwaria Sarai (ISKCON Delhi) and Govardhan Bace (ISKCON Chowpaty), where we mostly used flat top foldable table to display books, we decided to try something diferent.
The material we chose was stainless steel as it would be more durable and would give a smart look to the Book Stand. Also, we wanted the book-stand to be foldable so that it could be placed in vehicle or could be easily transported to other places. The Book Stand has a two-fold structure that can be opened and erected on a right-triangle. For the proper display of books, we provided a slope to the front portion (hypotenuse) of the Book Stand where books would be placed on racks. The racks (four in number) and also the top label was purposely made removable to ensure the main body doesn’t occupy much space. Provision has been made in the Book Stand to store additional books. The Book Stand is also provided with wheels for local movement. The wheels have been provided with a locking facility.
The Book Stand was used experimentally for “December Book Marathon 2016” in Mumbai and received lot of appreciation from the devotees. We also noticed an increase in the number of people coming to the Book Stand and buying books due to a more attractive display.
I hope that the Book Stand will help in better serving the Sankirtana Movement introduced by lord Chaitanya by increasing the distribution of spiritual literatures.
If any devotee or temple would like to use the Book Stand in their temple or for some function, you may write to IDVM-India Secretariat to order the Book Stand at
