In this Kartika month, we had some celerations to the cows in Indonesia. There were Go-Krda and Gopastami celebrations. As we know, Go-Krda is the day when the first calf is given to young boy Krishna to take care of. Go-krida literally means “pleasure of the cows”. So in that day the devotees give gifts to the cows. And then Gopastami is the coming-of-age celebration when Krishna’s father, Nanda Maharaja, gave Krishna the responsibility for taking care of the cows of Vrindavan.
More than thirty five goshalas in Indonesia did Go-Puja. We offered grass, fruits, and vegetables to the cows. We were happy to know there are some new calves who just born at those goshalas. Nowadays, we have more than sixty cows that are taken care by devotees around Indonesia. This is a good way for taking care of the cows in the country that has many cow slaughters. We hope these celebrations will give auspiciousness to the world.
