A group of devotees in Hyderabad were inspired by HH Bhakti Raghava Swami Maharaj to grow their own food in a natural way. One of these devotees is Bhakta Kishore. Despite having no land, yet he found a way to grow his food in his house terrace by filling up some pots with soil and growing some vegetables and spices like spinach, coriander, etc.,
As a result of this, most of the days his meal comes from what he has grown on his terrace. “… in my later age I just want to spend my time with cows, land, and chanting Hare Krishna. What else we need in life when our basic necessity is easily obtained? Life is simple for the simple. Hare Krishna,” said Bhakta Kishore.
Indeed, where there is a will there is a way. Lacking desire is actually the main impediment to in fulfilling Srila Prabhupada’s varnasrama mission. We are overly dependent on the modern lifestyle which actually makes our lives very complicated by accumulating so many unnecessary things in life.
Srila Prabhupada says, “…You produce your food locally and produce your milk. Then eat, drink, and live comfortably. Chant Hare Krishna. That is wanted. Make your life successful. Yaduttama-sloka-gunanuvarnanam. [SB 1.5.22]”
– Mauritius, October 2nd, 1975 – Morning walk.
Even those who live in the city can start this revolution. Revolution starts from ourselves, the revolution starts from our terrace, and it works. Bhakta Kishore is living proof.
